Dating a Friend's Ex Or An Ex's Friend: Is It Acceptable?
Many relationships develop out of friendship. We often date people who are members of a limited social circle. Additionally, we tend to remain friends with many of our exes. The interconnectedness of our relationships and friendships means that sooner or later, we are bound to develop feelings for someone that tradition states that we should not date.
If you find yourself developing feelings for either a friend’s ex or an ex’s friend, you are treading in potentially dangerous waters. It is extremely important that you maintain open lines of communication with everyone involved. Be absolutely certain that both members of the previous couple have completely worked through their feelings. If there is any doubt that one or both may be harboring resentment or bitterness, steer clear.
If the former relationship is completely resolved, then proceed with caution. Keep the lines of communication open and be sensitive to the needs of everyone in the situation. It is not worth jeopardizing friendships.
