Hotornot.com thrives on a very simple premise. Users upload their photos, and other users decide whether or not they are 'hot'. The site then takes things a small step further with a Meet Me option. If you decide that another user is hot enough that you want to make contact, you choose this option. If that member also wants to meet you, then an exchange of information is made. Users upload extremely short personal descriptions along with their photos, but the focus is definitely on the physical.

Apparently the system works. The site now boasts more than 12 million recorded votes, and numerous testimonials from now married couples who met on Hotornot. In today’s physically obsessive society, it is no surprise that couplings based solely on looks would be quite popular.

It is possible to use the Meet Me features without making your photos available to the general public for rating, but it seems that the majority of members are comfortable putting themselves out there for the world to see. The premise is fun and the site does no harm. Be warned though, the general public can be pretty brutal, so if you choose to make your photos available for public rating it pays to have a thick skin!

Hotornot is brilliant in its simplicity and has spawned a host of imitators. It seems unlikely, though definitely not impossible, to meet your soul mate through the site, but virtually all membership options are free, so why not take advantage of this fun and unusual site?
